2012 Fire Ecology Institute for Educators
July 15-20, 2012

Fire Homework

Registration is now Closed. Please email scrocker@colostate.edu if you are interested in being placed on a waiting list.

Join 4th-12th grade educators at the Colorado Mt. College, Carbondale, Colorado,
to gain knowledge, activities, materials and experiences to help teach about “hot topics” and “burning issues”!
Light a fire under your 4th-12th grade students and spark their interest in reading, writing, math, science and geography.

Wildfire is as much a part of Colorado ecosystems as snow, yet most of us don’t understand it or prepare for it.

Gain knowledge, experience and materials to provide your students with relevant information about fire science, ecology, behavior, history, mitigation, insects, droughts, opportunities for community service projects-and yes, prescription fire.

Foresters, firefighters, biologists, ecologists, hydrologists, educators and other experts will share information about the 2002 Hayman, Coal Seam, Missionary Ridge and other fires, as well as other current forest issues.

Activities include field studies, technology, experiments and more.

Take home videos, posters, cds, activity guides, and many other resources.

Plan to work with us from sun-up to sun-down most days as we visit local burned, eroded, rehabilitated, thinned, and flooded areas, mixed with student activities, presentations, speakers, movies, GIS, and discussions.

See photos and previous participants' reflections and lesson plans HERE.
